Main project goal

Redesign and implement a website that encapsulates the artisanal essence of Lüclay's creations and workshops.

Discovery

Background

In 2023, Lüclay experienced a surge in customer demand for their pieces and workshops leading to the launch of their website to facilitate online purchases and bookings.

Challenge

Before the redesign, Lüclay's online presence was primarily product-focused, featuring a wide array of ceramic pieces but lacking workshop offerings and a direct checkout process. This setup presented several challenges:

  • Limited engagement opportunities: The absence of workshop listings meant missed opportunities for engaging more deeply with our audience.

  • Complex purchase path: Without a dedicated checkout page, the process for users to purchase products was cumbersome and indirect, significantly increasing the time it took for a new user to navigate and complete a purchase. This complexity contributed to a higher rate of customer dropout.

  • Lack of mobile optimization: The original website was not designed with mobile users in mind, which posed accessibility challenges for on-the-go customers.

Goals and objectives

  • Dual Showcase: Design a website that elegantly displays Lüclay's ceramics and workshops, ensuring a smooth and visually appealing user interface.

  • User-Friendly Navigation: Ensure easy and intuitive navigation for purchasing products and workshop enrollment, and integrating a straightforward checkout process..

  • Brand Storytelling: Effectively communicate Lüclay's brand ethos and craftsmanship through the website, enhancing user engagement and brand connection.

Problem definition

Stakeholder insights

I had detailed discussions with the owner of Lüclay and her assistant to understand the needs and preferences of their customers. These conversations were instrumental in gaining insights into the expectations and desires of their target audience.

Stakeholder feedback

  • Interest in workshop details: There was a clear indication that users would value in-depth overviews of workshops, including the structure and expected outcomes, to make informed decisions before enrolling.

  • Desire for comprehensive product information: Feedback highlighted a strong preference for detailed descriptions of ceramic products, emphasizing the importance of material, size, and care instructions to aid in the purchasing decision.

  • Importance of user-friendly navigation: Ease of use and intuitive navigation emerged as critical factors, with a need for a design that facilitates effortless transitions between viewing products, accessing workshop details, and checkout.

Scoping

Based on insights from discussions with Lüclay's owner and assistant, who provided a deep understanding of their target audience's preferences, Lüclay is set to enhance their website. The focus is on making product and workshop information more accessible and engaging. Key actions include:

  • Scope definition: Identifying crucial features for the website's initial launch, prioritizing a curated selection of ceramics and workshops based on stakeholder feedback.

  • Optimized user experience: Refining the website to ensure a seamless journey for visitors, from browsing through Lüclay's offerings to accessing detailed product information and smoothly enrolling in workshops.

  • Core functionalities: Launching the site with essential functionalities that facilitate easy navigation and provide clear, comprehensive details on products and workshops, with the intention to iteratively enhance features based on direct feedback from users.

Solution design

High fidelity prototype

I designed a high fidelity prototype that provided a detailed view of Lüclay's products and workshops. This prototype focused on showcasing the material, dimensions, care instructions, and the structure of the workshops, aiming to offer a comprehensive insight into Lüclay's offerings.

Working on the final adjustments before the go live of Lüclay's website.

Final feedback

After it was presented to the stakeholder for hand-on testing, I received feedback for improvement. Specifically, on the website navigation and on creating an extra page to showcase Lüclay's collaborations.

Execution

Prototype refinement

Collaborations Page: This page aims to highlight the community and partnerships Lüclay has built, emphasizing the brand's commitment to creativity and craftsmanship.

I defined paddings and text size for all UI components.

Mobile Navigation Enhancement: The mobile navigation experience was improved, ensuring users can easily toggle between product details and workshop information.

On usability tests, users mention uncomfortable sizes of UI elements. But we could not
